Marburg Outbreak
The current outbreak of Marburg started in Rwanda towards the end of September 2024.
The ministry of health is doing what it can to stop the spread of this deadly disease.
12 people have died according to the Africa CDC, so far from 46 confirmed cases.
The virus has a mortality rate of 24% to 88%.
There is no licensed vaccine for this disease, although a trial vaccine has arrived in Rwanda, and will be administered to try and stop the outbreak.
400 people who had some sort of contact with those infected are being monitored.
It is the first outbreak of Marburg in Rwanda and it was first detected in two referral hospitals in Kigali.

Based on the current risk assessment, WHO advises against any travel and trade restrictions with Rwanda.
